I've never fasted for anywhere near 24 hours as I've never had a reason to do that. It's not something that I needed to do to lose weight because eating high fat low carbs keeps my weight under control but I've been reading about the benefits of fasting and because of Good Friday, I decided to start my fast earlier and keep it for about 60 hours.

I ate dinner at 6 PM on Wednesday, had my coffee with heavy cream around 7 PM and after that I haven't eaten anything until Saturday around 8 AM. It was an interesting experience. When I was reading about fasting, people were saying to keep busy and try to stay away from food. It didn't work out too well for me the first day of my fast. I was around food and people eating quiet often and wasn't very busy so it was tough. I was hungry a few times but just kept drinking water and tried not to think about food. I thought about quitting early but somehow was able to get through the first 24 hours.

Second day was easier as I didn't feel the hunger that much. I had light headache so I added some salt to water and got through 48 hours. When I woke up in the morning on Saturday, I didn't feel hungry and I was doing fine. I started with handful of nuts around 8 AM, had my coffee with heavy cream around 9 AM and ate my regular breakfast at around 11:30 AM. During the first and second day, I thought that I'm going to eat a lot after the fast but I didn't feel hungry so I didn't overeat.

During my fast, I also drank green tea twice and water with squeezed lemon 3 times. Other than that, I only drank water.

From this experience, I learned that my body can last without food a lot longer than I previously thought. It was also a good exercise of self-control and it gave me a new perspective of looking at food.

I might try 5 or 7 day fast in a few months. What was your longest fast and how did it go?
